The Artist is in the process of writing and illustrating a picture book about the joy and memories of her growing up with chifferobes. There are not a lot of chifferobes in homes nowadays, and the artist hopes to inspire and educate children of the many wonders of having one growing up. "Growing up in New Orleans, shotgun houses had tiny if any closest space. Chifferobes were our closets where we kept family treasures. They were moveable. They kept secrets and treasures and made great hiding spaces. Chifferobes were ornate, some plain and even decorated. Sometimes, neat and spacious but most of the time stuffed and even messy. Chifferobes were full of surprises and great memories. " - Sharika |
