About Me

 Greetings and Welcome!

I’m sharika mAhdi

I'm a visual artist currently based in New Orleans. I started my artistic journey as a kid drawing at every chance I could get. My work and style has evolved over time but the happy, musical and colorful aspects of my art have not changed.  I've always loved drawing and singing; however, I  chose to focus on my visual art skills because I find it peaceful like meditation and at times I rely on it to retreat from the world. I owe much of my success to my parents and my five siblings. I am also grateful for "YAYA" the world renowned Art Guild (Young Aspirations Young Artists, Inc.), an organization that was the foundation to my entrepreneurial spirit. Over the decades (yes decades!), my art has taken a journey through numerous art galleries and festivals. As a middle school art teacher, I am reminded of how blessed I feel to share my artistic experiences with my students whom love to pieces. Thank you for allowing me to share this journey with you! Namaste!

My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.

I'm working on concept art for Disney's Imagineering Studio as they reimagine Splash Mountain into a Princess and the Frog theme ride. Check out my TV interview.

TV Interview

Typically, I start with a vision in my head inspired by something I see or hear. Sometimes, it's a song, a movie scene, or a beautiful flower on a sunny day. I may see a musician playing at a festival. That spark to create and recreate comes from my desire for beauty and love of music. Sometimes, I doodle and sketch randomly before starting a painting. I tend to choose colors I'm feeling in the moment. Colors are like seasons to me. Sometimes warm reds and oranges will speak to me while other times, cool blues and greens are speaking. I rather paint on the floor, Not sure why but I feel grounded this way. I prefer to use acrylic paint because it dries fast and I can layer colors and textures. My style over the decades, has become more abstract and figurative. It's hard to find a straight line in my work. If I see one, I'll curve it, lol.  Color creates certain energies that are healing. I prefer the element of color to speak me the loudest.
